WHO IS M.A. GUY ?
Maureen Alyson Guy has been painting since schooldays in the 60’s. Post-matric did several courses in oils, sculpture (with Nell Kaye) pottery at Putney School of Art, London, watercolours with Cynthia Ball in JHB, Ruth Prowse Art Centre for drawing & painting, also painting & colour training at Norscot Art Centre, JHB. Marriage & children came in between all this, which caused large gaps in production. Relocated to Hermanus in 1994 and attended Shelley Adams Art studio for painting & clay-modelling/sculpture classes with Monica Maritz.
Also completed an Icon writing course with Anna-Marie Bonds. Was a member of the Hermanus Art Society,(2000—-2008) & Vermont Art Circle (2004–2012), exhibited in their 2 annual exhibitions at various locations in and around Hermanus and had l st solo exhibition in 2000 & 2nd in In 2003 held a joint exhibition with Petronel Pieters in Hermanus. Mission House gallery, Onrus.
During the years has exhibited along with another group of Hermanus artists with a different theme each year-eg “Honds On”, “The Spirit of Volmoed”, “Woman”, “Mother Earth” &’Miniatures” plus in various other exhibitions in Somerset West & Grabouw.
Joined SASA (South African Society of Artists) in 2O12 and exhibits
regularly at their Kirstenbosch shows. Also joined WCAS (Western Cape Art
Society) in 2016.
Her works hanging in many homes in RSA and a few overseas. (Holland, UK, Australia, Dubai & USA) Her portfolio includes portraits, flowers, landscapes and cats as well as murals & sculpture. Commissions undertaken.
She lives and works on Volmoed in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley where she has her studio. Classes given Monday & Tuesday afternoons & Wednesday mornings plus available for individual or group retreat instruction by prior arrangement.
