Zach Mukwira

“Think Lucky – if you fall into a river, check your pockets for fish.” – Zach Mukwira

Born in Makonde, Zimbabwe, Zach currently lives in the Western Cape. He studied not only visual arts, but movement and dance, theatre and Drama. Mukwira has over the years shared his talent and skills by teaching drama, the spoken word and visual arts at institutions catering to special needs. He was the “New Signatures” Competition 2014 First Prize winner, and has had several exhibitions.

Zach’s paintings are stories of Africa.

He draws his inspiration from old African stories, myths and legends passed down through the generations. These stories are woven into everyday life situations and people he sees in the streets.

He studied not only visual arts, but movement and dance, theatre and Drama. Mukwira has over the years shared his talent and skills by teaching drama, the spoken word and visual arts at institutions catering to special needs. He was the “New Signatures” Competition 2014 First Prize winner, and has had several exhibitions.

He has work in private collections across the world as well as at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, the Half Way Hotel and the New Kingdom Hotel in Victoria Falls.  He also has done a book cover for the children’s book “Stars in a Plate,” and has an on-going contract to provide artwork for the Nando’s food chain as their restaurants in South Africa are renovated.

Mukwira has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Zimbabwe and South Africa and has facilitated four workshops.  He is a member of the Friends of the National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe and Water Colour Society of South Africa.

Over the years Zach has helped to bridge the gap between children with disabilities and the able bodied, offering to share his talent and skills by teaching drama, the spoken word and visual arts at institutions catering to special needs.  Zach has a motto in life :

“Think Lucky – if you fall into a river, check your pockets for fish.”
