Dreams & Dreamscapes group exhibition: Selection Day and Exhibition rules

How to submit your artwork for selection:

Enter online – Email images of your artwork:

  • Email us an image of your artwork with DREAMS & DREAMSCAPES as the theme to brightstreetgallery@gmail.com to reach us no later than Friday 20TH AUGUST 2021. Please remember to include the size, medium and title of your artwork as well as your contact details.
  • There is no entry fee for selection
  • Once selected for exhibition a hanging fee of R 100. 00 per work applies, this is payable on hanging day 27th August 2021.
  • The Opening event will be on Saturday 4th September 2021 @10 am, we kindly request selected artist to bring a plate of eats

– Bring your artwork to the gallery on Selection day 20th August 2021

  • Bring your artwork with DREAMS & DREAMSCAPES as the theme to Bright Street Gallery, 33 Bright Street, Somerset West, 7130 on Friday 20TH AUGUST 2021 between 10h00 and 13h00
  • Your work must be labelled clearly with your name, the title of the work, the medium and your telephone/cell number.  The selection will be completed by a panel appointed by the gallery owner, Di White.
  • Artworks can be collected between 14h00 and 15h00 the same day, or the following week. Upon collection you will be told whether your artwork has been selected.
  • There is no entry fee for selection

Rules:

  1. Entries on each of the themes may consist of work in any medium: oil, watercolour, pastel, acrylic, printmaking, drawing, photography, digital, sculpture, ceramics or mixed media. There is no restriction on the size of a work. Artwork need not be framed for the selection, but it must be neatly presented.
  2. maximum of Five (5) works may be submitted for selection.
  3. Entries must be your own original, handmade, unaided work.  You may not submit work done in classes led by an art teacher, regardless of whether the art teacher has given permission.
  4. No images that are copied from the internet, television, film or other public electronic media will be accepted.
  5. Reproductions of any other artist’s work will not be accepted.
  6. You must either own the copyright to any photographic images you work from, or provide written proof that you have the permission of the author of the source material to use it in your work.  Please be aware that Plagiarism is a criminal offence, and that intellectual property is protected. Bear in mind that copyright rules exist for your own protection.
  7. All entries to the exhibition must before sale.  Bright Street Gallery will apply one-third commission to all sales (example: if you price your work at R 1000.00 the gallery will add R500.00 and the gallery price will be R1500.00 )
  8. To facilitate hanging, screw eyes must be fixed 20% of the way from the top of the frame with cord attached and the back of the work must be neat.  Boxed canvasses must be no less than 3 cm deep and the sides must be painted.  Bright Street Gallery reserves the right to reject any items it considers unacceptably framed or presented.
  9. If you need any form of electronic equipment to present or display your art, it must be supplied by you

Information for artists

  • Selection Day for artworks is Wednesday 17 July 2019. Bring your Artworks to Bright Street Gallery (33 Bright St, Somerset West) from 10h00-12h00 on this day. Work can be collected again after 14h00 on the same day
  • If your work is selected, it needs to be returned to the gallery on Hanging day, 23 August 2019. Hanging fee of R50,00 per painting is payable on this day.
  • The exhibition runs from 30 August – 27 September 2019.
  • The Opening is at 18h30 on Friday 30 August 2019 – Selected artists must please bring a plate of snacks for the opening.
  • After the exhibition, please collect your paintings on 27 September 2019 between 10h00 and 12h00, or arrange an alternative with the gallery.
