Louise Barton

Louise was born in Rhodesia in 1960 and grew up roaming the scenic landscapes of her small home town. As a child, she was constantly exploring the outdoors, taking in the changing colours of the African flora and fauna, this is where her initial artistic flare began to blossom.

Louise has a true creative core, which was etched into a career when she moved to the Kwa-Zulu Natal area and started an antiques agency, restoring and bringing neglected pieces, back to life with new lustre and a creative twist. After the birth of her two daughters, she relocated to Johannesburg where she studied fine art with the University of South Africa and opened her first art gallery with long time mentors and well-known local SA Artists, Susan Orpen & Marion Townsend. For years following, she mentored under the renowned Richard Rennie, having several art studios and galleries with the beloved water-colourist.

“Flowers in bloom – a moment of joy that continues to blossom in my life” – Liz Soule

I take my inspiration from my personal connection and the emotion invoked in me using my camera to capture the moment which best express the experience.

I submerge myself in the moment and paint intensely from start to finish.

“The fact that every living thing has its day in the sun… it blooms, it fades… life goes on, regardless.” Ros Koch

These works have been inspired by my walk/cycle to my children’s school and back. By choosing to focus on the positives, the beauty in everyday things, as a source of inspiration for my work

I have found being more mindful has been quite healing for me… encouraging me to keep my mind on the many good things in my life – the beauty in the small things – and finding sustenance in them.

The many flowers, trees and other plants. Their beauty but also their fragility. The change in seasons. The fact that every living thing has its day in the sun… it blooms, it fades… life goes on, regardless.
